Thailand Highlights Wedding and Honeymoons

Thailand is set to focus on its burgeoning wedding and honeymoon sector as a key part of its tourism strategy for 2018.

According to a report by Travel Daily News, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently signed a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Turkish Airlines on tourism cooperation. Valid for a total of 12 months, the MOU means that TAT and Turkish Airlines will join forces and create joint promotional activities – some of which will focus specifically on the wedding and honeymoon sector.

Other areas the MOU focuses on include sport tourism and gastronomy. It is expected that this deal will help boost the number of travellers to Thailand via Turkish Airlines’ flight network.

The Kingdom has long been regarded as one of the most romantic destinations in the Far East, attracting a long list of celebrities in search of the idyllic location to spend some time with their loved one. Canadian-Indian actress Lisa Ray is the latest A-lister to spend a romantic break in Thailand, having visited Koh Samui in October to celebrate her five-year wedding anniversary with husband Jason Dehni. The actress shared a selection of pictures of her romantic vacation, from moments spent on the beach to meals in luxury restaurants.

Thanks to the stunning, romantic setting, a growing number of couples are heading to Thailand to say their vows, too. Beach ceremonies on islands like Phuket and Koh Samui are particularly popular for the the tropical wow factor they bring to the celebration.

While a number of international hotels in Thailand offer wedding packages for couples, an increasing number of brides and grooms-to-be are hosting their celebrations in private villas. Hotspot destinations for such properties include the most popular islands like Phuket, in addition to glorious mainland beach provinces like Phang Nga.

Guests that choose to tie the knot in a private villa are free to tailor the celebrations to match their tastes and preferences, personalising everything from the celebration schedule to the décor. Each luxury villa is typically linked to a professional wedding planner who will help with the organisation even before the couple arrives in Thailand.
